"A SAMI PERSPECTIVE ON THE GREEN TRANSITION"
Information
"A SAMI PERSPECTIVE ON THE GREEN TRANSITION"Guest lecture & panel discussion with expert and professor May-Britt Öhman.
A guest lecture together with Uppsala University Professor May-Britt Öhman on 'A Sami perspective on the "Green Transition"'. 🌍
As we are rapidly approaching, and in the worst case even exceeding, 1.5 degrees of global warming, all nations must hastily implement adaptation and mitigation efforts to manage this. In order to secure a just transition, however, such efforts must account for all people but especially minority groups who are already in a more vulnerable position. One group that has suffered immensely from the actions of its governing nations throughout history is the Sami people, and the so-called "green transition" is no exception to this.
So, how "green" is the "green transition" in reality? And how can we change the direction to ensure that the transition we need is in fact just? These questions will be addressed by May- Britt Öhman who has a PhD in History of Technology and is also a docent in environmental history. She is active at the Center for Multidisciplinary Research on Racism at Uppsala University and her work is highly interdisciplinary. She herself is also a Lule/Forest Sámi with Tornedalian heritage. 🌿
